Mockup Generation

Mockup Generation allows you to create professional product images by placing your designs over your own product photos. Instead of relying on Printify's standard white-background mockups, you can build branded, lifestyle-style images that better represent your store.

We’ve introduced the new Design/ Products tools to make things easier, but you can still use the old Mockup Generation feature if you prefer.

Here’s how to access it:

  1. Click on the Products feature.

In the top-right corner, look for the option to switch to the old Mockup Generation tool and click on it.

You can then continue using the old workflow to generate your mockups.

Why Use This?

Printify's default mockups are functional, but they're basic: plain white backgrounds that look the same across thousands of stores. Professional sellers utilize custom photography and branded mockups to differentiate themselves and convert more visitors into buyers. With WeScale, you can create unlimited custom mockups using your own product photos, giving your store a polished, unique look.

Step 1 — Choose Your Designs

Select the designs you'd like to generate mockups for. You can pull them from:

  • A previous import you've already completed in WeScale
  • Existing Printify products

Note: You can process up to 25 designs per generation job.

Make sure your products are fully published to Shopify before starting the Mockup Generation flow.

Step 2 — Choose a Mockup Pack

A Mockup Pack is a collection of your own blank product photos — for example, photos of a white t-shirt, a black t-shirt, and a hoodie shot from different angles. These are the images your designs will be placed onto.

You can:

  • Select from your existing packs
  • Create a new pack by uploading your own product photos
  • Rename, reorder, or delete images within a pack at any time

If your designs come from a product with multiple colors, a Color Mapping section will appear, allowing you to assign each design to the correct color group.

Step 3 — Position Your Design

This step opens an interactive canvas editor where you place your design exactly where you want it on the mockup photo. You have full control over how it looks:

  • Drag the design to reposition it anywhere on the photo
  • Resize it using the corner handles
  • Rotate it using the rotation handle or the slider
  • Snap to center — alignment guides appear automatically when your design is close to the center of the image
  • Fine-tune the placement using precise number controls for position, size, rotation, and opacity
  • Undo or redo any changes with Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z

Once you're happy with the placement, it's saved and can be reused for future mockup generations.

Step 4 — Preview

Before generating anything, you'll see a grid showing every combination of design and mockup photo. Take a moment to review everything and make sure it all looks the way you want.

Step 5 — Generate

Click Generate and WeScale will create all your mockup images in the background. A real-time progress indicator shows each image as it's being processed — typically around 50 mockups per minute.

Your progress saves automatically. If you refresh or get interrupted, your mockups reopen right where you left off. If any generations fail, you can retry them from the History page with live progress shown for each retry.

Step 6 — Download

Once generation is complete, you can review all your mockups and download them in whichever way works best for you:

  • Download individual images — save only the ones you need
  • Download everything as a ZIP file — get all your mockups in one go. Note that the download link expires after 24 hours, so make sure to save your files promptly.

Step 7 — Publish to Shopify

The final step pushes your new mockups directly to your Shopify store. Each product has a checkbox (all selected by default) so you control exactly what gets published. The button shows "Publish Selected (N)", indicating how many products will be updated.

WeScale handles the matching automatically:

  1. Your Printify products are matched to their corresponding Shopify listings.
  2. Each mockup is assigned to the correct color variant — for example, a white shirt mockup will be applied to all "White" size variants.
  3. Click Publish to upload the mockup images to Shopify.
  4. Optionally, you can have WeScale automatically detect and remove any old Printify-generated mockups, keeping your product pages clean.

Repeating or re-running a publish will never create duplicate images — and if a mockup can't attach, the previous image is kept instead of leaving the product without one.

A real-time progress tracker shows you the status of each product as it's being updated.
